Vigil service for Henry A. Depperschmidt, 87, will be 8 p.m. Friday at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City, followed by Knights of Columbus rosary. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Joseph Bahr as celebrant. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Mr. Depperschmidt died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City. He was born Jan. 4, 1914, at Park, the son of John and Agnes (Kreutzer) Depperschmidt, and grew up there.

A Garden City resident since 1952, he worked as a salesman for Machine Supply Co. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, John J. Haskell VFW Post No. 2279 and Eagles Lodge No. 3124 and served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during World War II. He enjoyed playing golf and bowling.

On March 30, 1959, he married Ann M. Schadegg Schaefer at Garden City. She died July 28, 1998.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Norman Schaefer; two brothers, Paul Depperschmidt and Phillip Depperschmidt; three sisters, Cleo Fitzgerald, Martha Zerr and Christine Depperschmidt; two half brothers, Alex Depperschmidt and Serphine Depperschmidt; and two half sisters, Mary Wittman and Rosa Zimmerman.

He is survived by a daughter, Rita Lancaster, Kinsley; a brother, Gus Depperschmidt, Oakley; three sisters, Bertha Owens and Betty Kaiser, both of Denver, and Catherine Goetz, Dodge City; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the Edwards County Health Care Foundation or St. Dominic School Endowment, both in care of the funeral home.
