Jesse Clarence Herin, 84, resident of 216 Deer Run Lane, husband of Joan Cannon Herin, died Feb. 2, 2010 at Hospice House.
Born in Greenwood County, Oct. 20,1925, he was a son of the late Joseph Monroe and Mattie Lou Lowry Herin. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and the Greenwood College of Commerce. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the Philippines during the war, aboard the USS Missouri.
Mr. Herin retired from Greenwood Coca Cola Bottling Company, where he was an accountant and office manager for more than 35 years. He was a member of South Main Street Baptist Church and the Richard Carter Sunday School Class and formerly served as deacon of the Church. He was also a member of the Golden K Kiwan-is Club and the Greenwood Country Club.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of the home, are two daughters, Beverly Herin Furtick and husband Russell H. Furtick of Jacksonville, FL, and Jill Herin Warner and husband John Hampton Warner Jr. of Greenwood; and four grandchildren, Ben Furtick and Ryan Furtick of Washington University in St. Louis, MO, and Herin Warner and Hampton Warner of Greenwood. He is survived by two sisters, Lois Herin Bowie of Columbia and JoNell Herin Murdock of Jacksonville, FL; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by a brother Ros-coe A. Herin.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ryan Eklund, Rev. Richard McWhite and Dr. Alan Quigley officiating.
Burial will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park,
Pallbearers will be grandsons Ben Furtick and Ryan Furtick and nephews Brian Merriman, David Greer, Joe Bowie and Michael Maffett.
Honorary escort will be Ray Riddle, Mack Baltzegar, Ralph Bozard, Dr. Richard Carter, Bob Simmons, Tommy Jenkins and members of the Richard Cater Sunday SchoolClass of South Main Street Baptist Church.
