R.L. LOVVORN SERVICES SET FOR SATURDAY

Funeral services for Robert L. "Uncle Bob" Lovvorn, 73, 2404 Hill Avenue, will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m.. Mr. Lovvorn died unexpectedly at his residence Wednesday at 11 p.m.

A native of Carroll County, Georgia, he had been a resident of Gadsden since 1900.
He was a retired pipe fitter foreman at Republic Steel Corp. for 52 years, leaving his work in January, 1956. A member of Dwight Baptist Church, Mr. Lovvorn was a member of Dwight Masonic Lodge #550 F. & A.M., and of the Foreman's Club of Republic Steel.

In the fall of 1950 he was featured in his company's publication, "Republic Reports", his portrait predominating the front cover.

The publication stated: "Because of his long period of service with Republic, and his colorful background, Uncle Bob, as he is known by his fellow employees, was honored by a write-up with pictures of his family and self in his hometown paper, The Gadsden Times. He was recently given further recognition by "Republic Reports", having been invited to Cleveland to represent the company's 65,000 employees, on a "pictorial" tour of the general office, an assignment for which he proved well qualified."

"......Bob Lovvorn's Southern accent and warm smile won many friendly greetings, a fact, which prompted him to remark that "everyone was so nice and congenial, just like the folks down south in Gadsden."

Mr. Lovvorn is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ada Pearl Barrentine Lovvorn; one son, Robert Rurrell "Bob" Lovvorn, Charleston, S.C.; five daughters, Mrs. G.F. Pope, Mrs. W.S. Frix, Mrs. D.W. Kilgore and Mrs. Dorothy Lowe, all of Gadsden, and Mrs. Jim Gannon, Detroit, Mich.; two brothers, Frank Lovvorn, Gadsden and Joe Lovvorn, Sheffield; 17 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at Dwight Bapitst Church with the Rev. George W. Riddle officiating. Burial will be in Forrest cemetery with Collier-Butler Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers will be Roscoe Vickery, J.W. Dooley, Acton Cox, E.K Foster, Joe Reynolds, Slim Carter, John Hodge and Frank Nichols.

The body will remain at the residence to lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service. Masonic rites at the graveside will be conducted by Dwight Masonic Lodge 500 F.& A.M.
