NEWPORT, MINNIE GRIFFITH — 71, of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 1991, at the East Tennessee Baptist Hospital in Knoxville. Mrs. NEWPORT, who was the daughter of the late RICHARD and DELLA NEWPORT GRIFFITH, was a long time member of the New River Baptist Church and Sunshine Chapter #279 of the Order of the Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, HERMAN NEWPORT; two daughters, DELLA JO NEWPORT and VICKI NEWPORT; one son, RICHARD NEWPORT; three sisters, EVELYN GRIFFITH, PEARL DAVIS, and BETTY ZACHARY; and two brothers, McKINLEY (Bud) GRIFFITH and PAUL GRIFFITH.

She is survived by one daughter, KATHY WILSON of Helenwood; six sons, D.T. NEWPORT, EDISON NEWPORT and wife PEGGY, DONALD NEWPORT and wife BETTY, JAMES NEWPORT and wife RUBY, REX NEWPORT and wife SARAH, all of Helenwood, and BOBBY NEWPORT and wife SHERRY of Rock Hill, S.C.; 25 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one sister, ELLEN BRUMMETT of Helenwood; a special niece, VIVIAN LLOYD; special friends, CLIFFORD and DOROTHY LOGGINS; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted on Friday, November 1, at 1 p.m. at the New River Baptist Church, with Rev. JOHNNY ZACHARY and Rev. HERTIS PHILLIPS officiating. Special music was provided by the church choir. Burial was in the Reed Cemetery at New River. Jones and Son Funeral Home in Oneida was in charge of the arrangements.
