Herman Newport, 62, of Helenwood, passed away Wednesday morning, October 10, 1979 at his home. He was the son of the late Andy Newport and Ollie Crowley Newport, and was also preceded in death by two daughters, Della Jo and Vickie Lynn Newport; and one son, Richard Newport. He was a member of the New River Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife; Minnie Griffith Newport of Helenwood; one daughter, Kathy Ann Wilson of Chattsworth, Georgia; six sons, Dennis, Edison, James and Bobby Newport, all of Helenwood, Donald Newport of New River, and Rex Newport of Huntsville; four sisters, Ila Newport and Ruth Newport, both of Oneida, Geneva Richmond of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Beatrice Newport of Indianapolis, Indiana; three brothers, Ralph Newport of Knoxville, K.K. Newport of Oneida, and A.J. Newport of Indianapolis, Indiana; one uncle, E. M. Newport of Helenwood, 18 grandchildren ad several other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted from the New River Baptist Church on Saturday, October 13, with Rev. Guy Ainsworth and Rev. Johnny Zachary officiating. The Goad Family sang. Burial was in the Reed Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were: Mr. Newport's sons: Dennis, Edison, James, Bobby, Donald, and Rex Newport. Honorary Pallbearers were: Ernest Phillips, Frank Jones, Charles Jeffers, Benny Zachary, Teddy Brummitt, and Clyde Zachary. West-Murley Funeral Home, Inc. of Oneida in charge of arrangements.
