U.S. Senator. He graduated from the law school of the University of Wisconsin, was admitted to the bar in 1895 and commenced to practice law in Mayville, Wisconsin. He was district attorney of Dodge County (1902-06) and a member of the Wisconsin State Senate (1907-13). In 1915, he was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate and served until his accidental death while duck hunting.
