Born in Corning, on February 11, 1906, the son of James L and Mary McElroy West. He was married to Marian M Brimhall on June 10, 1931 in State Center. She preceded him in death in August of 1979.
Three children survive, James C West of State Center, Margaret (Mrs Will) Johnson of Lexington, Kentucky and Richard West of Lincoln, Nebraska, as well as seven grandchildren. A sister, Letha West of Colorado Springs, Colorado also survives.
Mr West was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son and a brother.
Reared and educated in Corning, Mr West graduated from high school there and later graduated from the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. He taught school and coached in Colfax before attending the Worsham College of Mortuary Science.
He owned and operated the Brimhall-West Funeral Home and Furniture Store in State Center for more than 50 years and was a prominent figure on State Center Main Street until just before his death.
His memberships include the Presbyterian Church, State Center Lions Club, State Center Commerce Club, Terresrtial Lodge 276 AF & AM, and the EMANON Bridge Club. Mr West was also active in many community and commerce projects throughout his half-a-century in State Center.
