Abraham H. Derrick, 79, a Kittitas Valley resident for 48 years, died here Monday afternoon in the Sorensen Memorial Hospital. He had been in the hospital the past week.
Derrick came here 48 years ago from Rogersville, Tenn., and had lived here ever since. For more than 20 years, until his retirement about 10 years ago, he was foreman of the county road construction crew. Derrick was a lifelong member of the Dunkard Church.
He is survived by two sons, Urban G. Derrick of Tacoma and Elbert D. Derrick of Ellensburg; a daughter, Mrs. L. M. Robbins of Tacoma; a brother, Andrew J. Derrick of White Cloud, Kansas; two sisters, Mrs. Julia Harrel of Ellensburg and Mrs. Myrtle T. Barrett of White Cloud; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services will be conducted Thursday, March 19, at 2 p.m in the Evenson Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Dan J. Rueb officiating; followed by interment in the IOOF Cemetery. It is requested by the family that flowers be omitted.
Those who may wish to make memorial contributions are asked to make them to the Heart Fund, care of Ellensburg Post Office.
