New Lisbon, Aug. 8 – The funeral of David Hopkins whose death was briefly mentioned in Wednesday's Star, was largely attended Friday afternoon at his late home at New Lisbon, Rev. H. E. Danielson, pastor of the Baptist church at Morris, having charge of the service. He also sang a solo, "Under His Wing."
There was a large profusion of beautiful flowers from relatives and friends, also a piece from the neighbors. The bearers were four nephews, Edwin Hopkins, Frank Hopkins, Byron Hopkins, and Ralph Houghtaling. (Burial) was beside his first wife in the family plot in Mt. Vision cemetery.
David Hopkins was born at West Laurens December 6, 1846, a son of Willard and Sarah Coggshell Hopkins. August 29, 1872, he was united in marriage with Henrietta M. Washburn of Laurens. Their entire married life was passed on a farm near Gilbert's lake. To them was born one daughter, Pearl, now the wife of George W. Carr of this place. His first wife, dying September 26, 1892, in 1895 he married Sarah Howland of Morris. Her death occurred April 24, 1920. After her death, he gave up the homestead and went to reside with his son-in-law and daughter at whose home he died. During the years of his declining life he has been patiently and devotedly cared for by them.
He was a man of quiet nature, always having a good word for everyone, and was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends who sympathize with the family in their sorrow.
