"Mrs. Isabelle Hopkins Springer died very quietly as she slept Monday night, January 2, 1928 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James B. Wickes in this village where she lived for several years. She was believed to be in her usual health when she retired.

Mrs. Springer was born December 21, 1843 in the town of Laurens (Otsego County) and was the daughter of Willard and Sarah Coggeshall Hopkins. In 1863 she married Abram Houghtaling of Morris (Otsego County), and they resided on his farm in that town until his death in 1881. In 1886 she became the (2nd) wife of Perry Springer of South New Berlin (Chenango County). They came to Gilbertsville (Otsego Co) and lived for many years on his farm on the Morris state road above this village, which they later disposed of and moved into the village. Mr. Springer died November 1926.

Three children: Jay Houghtaling of North Kortright; Ralph Houghtaling of New Berlin, and Mrs. James B. Wickes of Gilbertsville, survive besides several grandchildren and two brothers, Stephen and David Hopkins of Laurens. Another brother, Oscar M. Hopkins of Laurens died November 29th last.

Mrs. Springer was a member of the Women's Relief Corp and of the Baptist church. She was loved and respected by all who knew her. The funeral will be held on Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock, Rev. Leroy Zaraphonithees, pastor of the Baptist church, will be conducting the service. Burial will follow in Morris."

Grandma Hopkins as she was known, joined the DAR society with her daughter Frances. Listed as Welthon Isabelle Hopkins.
