"Samuel L. Hopkins died Oct. 18, 1909, of pneumonia, after an illness of eleven days at the age of 68 years. He was born in the town of Laurens and had always lived in the vicinity of West Laurens. He is survived by his wife and three sons, Solen E. of Oneonta, Fred H. of Gayalton [sic] [recte Galeton], Penn., Edwin M. of Long Island City; one daughter, Mrs. Andrew Cope of Laurens, and three brothers and one sister, besides a large number of cousins. The funeral was on Wednesday at the Friends church, Rev. Mr. Cook of Morris officiating. Interment at Morris.---West Laurens Correspondent."
