Reverend Dwight "Billy" William Clark, 88, of Greenville, husband of Anna Demos Clark, went to be with his Savior after a period of declining health, Saturday, March 2, 2012.
Born on November 7, 1923, one of ten children, he was a son of the late Ora Earl and Glennie Ruth Hooten Clark.
Reverend Clark served in the South Pacific during WWII. An amphibious tractor operator, he participated in the rescue of prisoners at the Los Banos prison in the Philippines on February 23, 1945.
He attended Bob Jones University, where he studied Bible. He pastored Centreville Baptist Church in Centreville, MI, and founded Fish Lake Bible Church in Sturgis, MI. He completed an M.A. in Educational Administration at Western Michigan University and taught in a variety of public and Christian schools.
He was a deacon emeritus at Hampton Park Baptist Church, a Sunday School teacher, and active member of Men for Missions. He taught the Men's Sunday School class for many years. Dwight was a painter and participated in more than 40 short term mission team projects in Africa, Siberia, Haiti, and the Caribbean, as well as in the U.S. He held monthly services at the Greenville Rescue Mission for more than 33 years.
He was a member of the Charles F. Daniel Chapter of the American Legion, Post 3, in Greenville, SC, and served as chaplain for the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the 11th Airborne Division reunions. He also represented the Los Banos Remembrance Reunion groups, serving as chaplain. He was active in the Republican Party at the county and precinct level, and served as a poll watcher for many years.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Karis Miller (Rick) of Greenville, Shelly Yost (David) of Northville, MI; daughter-in-law, Donna Buckley Clark of Midland, MI; six grandsons, Ben, Tim, Joe Clark, Eric, David, and Casey Miller; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Miller Stratton (Abe), Carrie Miller Hansen (Kirk), and Erica Yost of Puebla, Mexico; one great granddaughter, Silver Clark; six great grandsons, Keaton and Silas Clark, Noa and Levi Clark, Samuel Miller, and Asher Stratton; and a brother, Stuart Clark, of South Bend, IN.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Althea Ann; and by his son, Thomas Dwight.
The visitation will be held Monday, February 5, 2012 from 6-8:30p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Hampton Park Baptist Church. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Veterans Field.
