John was born in Supuru de Jos, Romania. He married Anna Talpos in Romania and had one child there. He emigrated to America from Romania on the ship Antonia arriving in New York on September 15, 1910. His wife, Anna Talpos, was born in Unimet, Romania. She and their daughter, Emma joined him in 1921. They settled in Aurora, IL and had three more children George, Mary and Florence. He worked for many years for Thor Independent Automatic Tool Company in Aurora, IL. He also worked with the WPA (Works Progress Administration).
