Elwood "Woody" Anderson, 89, of Wilderville died Wednesday, May 14, 1997, at Three Rivers Community Hospital's Dimmick campus.

Viewing will be at 1 p.m. and immediately after services on Monday at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. at the chapel. Interment will be at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens.

He was born Sept. 1, 1907, at Woodland, Ill. He graduated from Watseka High School in Watseka, Ill. On Jan. 17, 1932, he married Ruth Brooks in Lafayette, Ind. He lived in Peoria, Ill., and broke horses that were used to pull his horse-drawn bakery wagon. He and his brother also owned and operated a neighborhood tavern in Peoria.

At the time of his retirement in 1971, he was employed as a road commissioner for Belmont Township in Illinois. After retiring, he moved to Grants Pass.

Anderson enjoyed fishing, hunting and working with horses.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane Henady and Jean Anderson, and a son, William E. Anderson, all of Wilderville; a sister, Pearl Muller of Woodland, Ill.; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth.
