Funeral services for William Payne aged 74 years, who was found dead in bed Thursday at his home in Lisbon, will be held Saturday morning at 10 am at Fletcher Chapel. Burial will be made in the Fletcher Chapel Cemetery. The funeral party will leave the residence at 9 o'clock. Mr. Payne's death was due to heart disease.

William J Payne was born in Salem, Washington Co, OH, the son of Wm Payne Sr, and Matilda Perkins. On Jul 3, 1864, in Clark County, Ohio, he married Elizabeth Smith, the daughter of George G Smith and Eleanor Chenoweth. Wm and Elizabeth were the parents of George Washington, Anna Florence, Carrie Elizabeth, John Alfa, and at least two infant children lost to them at birth.
On the back of their baby Carrie's tombstone is inscribed : "INFANT CHILDREN OF WM & E PAYNE" which would include two known, unnamed infants born in March 1, 1869 and March, 1875. Baby daughter, Carrie Elizabeth, died at 3 ms 26 ds in 1879.
