George Elliott Van Gorder was the s/o Andrew Alexander and Mercy D Wilson Van Gorder. George was the youngest of 4 siblings: Nancy Ida, Brises, and Allrilla.
George married Elizabeth Leota Murray
d/o Levi and Rebecca Ann Morris Murray.
George and Leota lived in Ellwood City, Pa where 3 daughters were born: Elsie Grace, Mable, and Effie Blanche. They later moved to Euclid, Pa. They stayed at the home of Charlie Dengler, an Undertaker and cousin of George. The Dengler's were vacationing in California and George and Leota tended to their animals over the winter. Their first son, Carl Murray, was born at the Dengler farm in 1897.
George and Leota purchased a farm in Center Twp along West Sunbury Road. Sons John A., and Paul Eugene were born on the farm.
George and Leota divorced in 1925. George sold the farm but did not want to give Leota any money. They had a trial and the court ordered her $500. She lived with her son Carl Van Gorder and reportedly saved the $500 for her funeral.
George died in 1946.

George Elliot VanGorder, aged 81, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs J Milton Blain, of Butler RD 1, at 7:10 o'clock last night.
Mr VanGorder was a retired farmer, born in Ellwood City, the son of Andrew Alexander VanGorder and Mercy Wilson.
He leaves his daughter, Mrs J Milton Blain, of RD 1, a son, John A VanGorder of Akron, Ohio; 15 grand children and 14 great grandchildren.
The body has been removed to the Dengler Funeral Home, 137 W Jefferson Street, where friends will be received.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 1:30 o'clock, Monday afternoon, with the Rev Henderson, pastor of the Holyoke UP Church, officiating.
Burial will be made in Rose Hill Cemetery.
