Ernest Conley Bost, well-known Businessman, Civic leader, and Rotarian, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2006, at his home following a short illness.

He was born in Beetree, NC on May 24, 1914, and was the son of the late Ernest and Carrie Whisenant Bost. He attended Marion schools and graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College in 1935. He taught school in Sneed's Ferry, NC, Winston-Salem, and North Cove. After working at Alcoa in Maryville, TN during the war he returned to Marion with his family and took over his father's business, Economy Auto Supply. He expanded the business to include appliances, radios, and televisions.

He was a member of the Marion Rotary Club for many years, past District Governor, and organized the McDowell Rotary Club in 1982. He began the Interact Club in his District and was always interested in helping young people succeed. He enjoyed reading, fishing, and attending basketball and softball games. He remained active most of his life and traveled to Mexico and Panama with Rotary projects. He was elected to serve on the Board of Education locally.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth B. Bost, two brothers, Mack Bost of Hickory and Buddy Bost of Loudon, TN, and two sisters, Mabel Carson of Columbia, SC and Pearl Hicks of Niota, TN.

He is survived by his second wife, Margaret Pitman Bost; his son, Dr. Michael E. Bost, and wife Merlyn of Winston-Salem, granddaughter Andrea and husband Rich Perkins and great grandsons Ian and Collin of Huntersville, and grandson Walt Bost of Sun Valley, CA; his son C. Daniel Bost and wife Cris, and step granddaughter Angel of Morganton; and daughter, Patsy B. Abell, and husband Dr. J. Curtis Abell, grandson Tony and wife Cari and great granddaughter Rylee of Alexandria, VA; and grandson Dr. Geoff Abell; five sisters, Katheryne Watkins of Loudon, TN, Hazel and husband Ken Poteat, Dot Packett, Joyce Hogan, and Ivis Bost of Marion, along with numerous nieces and nephews, and stepdaughters, Donna and husband Gene Goins, step grandsons, Chris Ellington and Scott Lane, and Maureen Dauge, step granddaughter Geoffie Merrin and step grandson Richard Merrin.

Services will be held Wednesday, March 22 at Westmoreland Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M. with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Rev. Larry Cronk, chaplain for Hospice of Morganton will preside.

Memorials may be made to Corpening Memorial YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, 348 Grace Corpening Dr., Marion, NC 28752 or to the donors' favorite charity.
