Mary Lodema Montague was born 28 April 1895 at Owosso, Shiawassee, Michigan, to Joseph and Maude Leona (Borden) Montague. She moved to Elbe, Pierce County, Washington, with her parents about 1907. She married Walter Elmer Sturtevant 15 June 1911 in Pierce County, Washington. They were in the restaurant business in Wasington state until moving to Santa Barbara in 1944 where they operated the St. Francis Hotel. She was later part owner of Nick's Cafe in Santa Claus. At the time of her death she was a resident of Summerland. She died in Cottage Hospital, Santa Barbara, CA, following a long illness. She and Walter had six children: Elmer, Donald, Richard, Catherine Woods, Maxa Roberts, and Beatrice Smith.
