Luther was born in Ohio County, WV. He's the s/o John Giffin and Margaret Jane Shaw. Luther is from a large family of 17 children. Although, they all didn't live until adulthood. In 1869, the parents and the younger siblings moved to Lee's Summit, Jackson Co., Missouri and reunited with two of the elder sons, John and Daniel.
