Mr. Shelton was born in Stokes County on Sept. 26, 1906, to James T. and Maggie McHone Shelton.
He was a farmer and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Wayne Tilley of Westfield and Glenna and Dwight Bullington of Pinnacle; four sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Betty Shelton of Pinnacle, Wayne and Hilda Shelton of Rural Hall and John Roger and Glenda Shelton and Kenneth and Susan Shelton of Pilot Mountain; 14 grandchildren; a step-grandchild; 18 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Virginia Inman of Westfield, Cordella and Garland Bryant of Ararat and Marie Burch of Mount Airy; a brother-in-law, Gene Heath of Pilot Mountain; and three special caregivers, Maxie Hudson, Anna Lee Kidd and Tammy O'Neal.
Mr. Shelton was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Sadie Mae Beck Shelton; two brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Pinnacle View Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Forrest Fulton and the Rev. Ronnie Chamblin. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Shelton is at the Cox-Needham Funeral Home and Chapel in Pilot Mountain and will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral services.
The family will receive friends at Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain, Saturday evening, Feb. 17, 2001, from 7 to 9 and other times at the family's home on Corner Road.
