Oma May Barclay, the second child of George Franklin Barclay and Johney C. Harper, was born 8 May 1876 in Woodville, Marshall County, Alabama. When she was a young girl her family called her Mary. She was the sister of Sarah Sofronia, Lillie Frances 'Fanny' and William Jasper.

She married John B. Harden at Logan County, Arkansas on November 6, 1892. They were the parents of one son, John Omer Harden.

In 1899, she married Robert Luther Martin. Oma and Robert were the parents of two sons, Fredrick Jasper 'Fred' and Bonnie Floyd 'Bon' Martin.

Oma's mother passed away in 1894. Her father married three more times giving her eight Barclay half-siblings:
