George Franklin Barclay was the youngest child of William Franklin Barclay and Mary Maples.

He married Johney C. Harper in Jackson County, Alabama on July 20, 1873. George and Johney were the parents of Sarah Sofronia, Oma May, William Jasper and Lilly Frances. The couple appears on the 1880 U.S. Census residing in Marshall County, Alabama. The family moved to Indian Territory (Oklahoma) where Johney passed away in 1894; she is buried at Buffington Cemetery in Sallisaw County.

On October 1, 1895, George married Maggie Pidcock in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas. Maggie was the daughter of John W. and Catherine (nee Ashby) Pidcock. George and Maggie were the parents of a son, Amos Frank Barclay, who was born in 1896; Maggie died when he was an infant.

George married Della Harrison on May 23, 1899 in Muskogee County, Indian Territory (Oklahoma). They were the parents of daughters Ethel Vina and Johney Bertine "Bertie". Della passed away on April 7, 1902.

George and his fourth wife, Jennie Leach, were the parents of five children:
Clarence George, Olie May, Iva Lorean, Edward (or Edwin) and Walter. The couple divorced in 1923.

George died 12 May 1930 in Rapid City, Pennington County, South Dakota. Interment at Mountain View Cemetery on 13 May 1930.
