Gottfried "Fritz" Stricker, Jr., Russell, died July 9, 2005, at St. John's Care Center, Hays, at the age of 62.He was a life-long Russell County area resident.

The son of Gottfried Sr. and Mollie (Niedenthal) Stricker, he was born January 15, 1943, near Milberger.He grew up in the Milberger area and attended Lincoln Rural School and completed his education at Russell High School graduating with the Class of 1960.He attended Ft. Hays State College and studied there for one year.

He entered the United States Army in August of 1964 and served in Germany for 16 months before his discharge in July of 1966.

He married Marsha Lynn Boxberger. They were later divorced.

After his discharge from the Army, he returned to the area and was a farmer and stockman in Russell County for many years.He later worked as a bookkepper for Boxberger Motors, Russell, for several years, and most recently he worked as a machine operator for ABCO Wire, Russell, for several years until he retired in 2001, due to his failing health.

Stricker was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6240 and the American Legion post, both of Russell.

Preceding him in death were parents and an infant brother.
