Eastland -- John M. Kidd, age 74, passed away on January 2, 2008.
Funeral services were held at 2 PM, Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Daugherty St. Church of Christ under the direction of the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home. Interment followed at Flatwood Cemetery with Larry Roberts officiating.

John M. Kidd was born December 10, 1933 to Bennie Kidd and Clair (McCain) Kidd in Fisher County. He was raised and attended schools in the Capitola Community of Fisher County.

John served his country as a member of the United States Army from May of 1955 until his duties were completed in April of 1957. During the Korean Conflict, while stationed in Japan, he served in an Anti-Aircraft Division working with 75mm guns.

John married Betty Mae Bond on May 16, 1959 in the Flatwood Community of Eastland County. The couple was blessed with over 48 years of matrimony and four children, Sherry, Brenda, Shirley, and John Glenn Kidd.

Mr. Kidd was a farmer and a rancher by trade. He was involved his entire life with 4-H. He was a member of the Eastland County Livestock Raisers Association and was a Past President and Board Member of the Farm Bureau in Eastland County. John was also a member of the Daugherty Street Church of Christ in Eastland.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, B.C. "Butch" Kidd, and a grandson James C. Rodriguez, Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Kidd of Eastland; his daughters, Sherry Whiteside and husband Jeffrey of Sipe Springs, Brenda Kidd of Shelby, North Carolina, Shirley Dove and husband Dwayne of Eastland; his son, John Glenn Kidd and Danna Casey of Eastland; his son-in-law, James Rodriguez; his sisters, Frankie Toland, M.E. Waddell, Ann Cearley, Margie Flint, Betty Steele, Jane Collins, Wanda Jordan; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Memorial donations in Mr. Kidd's name may be made to the Highland Church of Christ Hospitality House Fund in Abilene.
