Maggie Evaline "M.E." Waddell passed away on, Tuesday, October 15, 2013. She was born March 11, 1923, the second of nine children born to Bennie and Clair McCain Kidd in Capitola, Fisher County, Texas. She grew up and school in the Capitola Community and graduated from Hobbs High School in Rotan, Texas. She married James L. Waddell, Jr., December 26, 1942. While her husband served in the U.S. Air Force, she worked as a pre-flight attendant for the Wasp Airlines at Avenger Field in Sweetwater, as "Rosie the Riveter" in Fort Worth and on the flight line at Biggs Field, El Paso, Texas. She entered the Cadet Nurse Corp and professional Nurses School at Hendrick Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as an honor student in her class as a Registered Nurse in 1947. M.E. worked as an active Registered Nurse for over 25 years. Those years included Stephenville Hospital, Lubbock Hospital, Odessa Medical Center Hospital and 17 years at Midland Memorial Hospital as supervisor and Director of Nurses. She was MMH Nurse of the year in 1972. M.E. set up and taught the first Emergency Technician Program at Odessa College. She was a member of the Texas Nurses Association, the District Nurses Association, American Red Cross and Phi Alpha Sorority. M.E. was preceded in death by her husband, J.L. Waddell and daughter Debbie Waddell. She is survived by Kimberly Foster, Ashley Usery and son-in-law Chuck Usery, Jon Waddell and daughter-in-law Rinda Waddell, Ray Waddell, as well as Cody Waddell, Emma Waddell, Aiden Waddell, and Woodrow Usery. Also left to treasure her memory are sisters Betty Steele, Ann Cearley, Margie Flint, Jane Collins, Wanda Jordan, brother-in-law Corky Steele and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Loves of her life were the Lord, her family, and the nursing profession. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ben Richey Boys Ranch in Albany, Texas or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. M.E. was a member of the Golf Course Road Church of Christ. The family will welcome friends to a visitation on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 6-8 pm at Ellis Funeral Home, Midland, TX. Services will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park, Midland, TX.
