Funeral services were held at the First Reformed church in Maurice Wednesday , Feb. 10 with Rev. David Laman in charge. Interment was made at the Maurice cemetery. Pallbearers were Marion Van Peursem Anthony Muilenburg, Marlin Wieners, Lester Popma, Frank Popma and James Kots.
Born October. 27, I860 [sic!] , at Pella, he was the son of Franz Popma and Martje Heemstra Popma.
He married Clara Marra in March, 1911, and the couple had two daughters, Viola (Mrs. Charles Koopman) and Edna (Mrs. E. Riepma).
Following the death of his first wife on February 23, 1916 he married Mrs. Ida Raak Popma in 1920, to which union two children were born. One child died in infancy and the other Alma (Mrs. Robert Vander Broek) now lives in Ireton. Mrs. Raak Popma died April 16 1926 .
Fourteen years ago Mr. Popma married Mrs. Mary Kots and they moved to Maurice. Prior to this move he had farmed in the Maurice area.
Survivors include his wife, the former Mrs. Mary Kots, and three daughters, Mrs. Charles Koopman of Maurice, Mrs. Edward Riepma of Norwalk, Calif, and Mrs. Robert Vander Broek of Ireton, and four sisters and two brothers.
Nineteen grandchildren and fifteen step-grandchildren also survive. He is also survived by two step children who made their home with him until their marriage. They are Elsie, Mrs. Raymond De Jong of Maurice, and Russell Popma of Pipestone, Minn.
