Martin was born in Meire Grove, MN on March 2, 1926. He was the last child (13th) born to Joseph J Welle and Anna Schoenberg Welle and was named after his maternal grandfather, Martin Schoenberg.

Martin married Rita Bidinger on October 24, 1946 in Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, Rockville, MN. The couple farmed 3 1/2 miles southeast of Rockville.

Martin A. Welle died on January 13, 1982 at the age of 55 years.

Rita and Martin had 12 children, all which survive him: Sharon (Butch) Chrast of Sartell, Sandy (Ralph) Weber of New York Mills, Arthur (Diane) of Holdingford, Sue (Ken) Dockendorf of Waite Park, Gary (Cheri) of Pleasant Lake, Bruce (Cheryl) of Rockville, Jeff (Mary) of Rockville, Brian (Patty) of Wausau, WI, Joseph (Pat) of St. Cloud, Cindy (Steve) Athmann of Cold Spring, Martin Jr. and Pam at home.

Martin is also survived by 4 sisters: Lizzie Ellering, Katie Singsang, Mary Rieland, Anna Marie Imdieke, and 3 Welle brothers: Ervin, Adelbert and Wilfred Welle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna (1944) and Joseph J Welle (1960), brothers Joseph H Welle (1945), Leo & Henry (1920-twins), Anthony (1925) and sister, Loretta (1923).
