Tabitha was born in Kentucky and moved to Missouri when she was married. Tabitha married Proctor Mandeville Burns on 26 October 1862 about 7 miles from Bolivar, Mo. by Squire Askren.

She lived in Missouri until about 1898 when she moved to California with her children. Proctor was supposed to follow her to California but never did. Tabitha lived with her children and their spouses, alternating between them, during her time in California from 1899 until her death in 1938. Proctor "married" two other women while he was still married to Tabitha. Tabitha and Proctor were never divorced. Tabitha and Proctor had 9 children.

As of the 1920 U.S. Census, Tabitha was living with her son Waldo in the Tipperary Flats area of Fillmore, Ventura Co., California.

Tabitha's last known address was 3159 Cazador St., Los Angeles, Ca.

Tabitha died of senility and "just a general wearing out of the body" at the age of 93 years, 5 months and 16 days.
