Susan Blackford was born April 16, 1863 in Warren County, Iowa. She departed this life Jan. 29th, 1913, aged 49 years 9 months and 13 days. She was united in marriage with Mr. Jos. Hoover Oct. 28th, 1878. To this union was born four children, two sons and two daughters. One daughter, Mrs. Hattie Beam, having preceded her mother in death. She leaves to mourn their loss her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Maud McIntire of Buena Vista Co. Iowa, and two sons, Simeon and James Franklin, and four grandchildren, an aged father, four brothers, John, Albert, Charles and Edware Blackford and two sisters, Mrs. Roxanna Young and Mrs. Nellie Foust.

Mrs. Hoover united with the Christian Church about 25 years ago, and when the Methodist Episcopal class was organized and North River 3 years ago, she became a charter member.

“A precious one from us has gone;
A voice we loved is stilled.
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.
God in his wisdom has recalled
The boon his love had given;
And although the body slumbers here,
The soul is safe in Heaven.”

Funeral services were conducted from the North River Church Friday, Jan. 31st at 11 a. m. By Rev R A Grigsdy, a former pastor of the family. Interment was made in the North River Cemetery close by.
