Thelma Bertsch, age 77, of Huron, SD, died Wednesday December 9, 2009, at Huron SunQuest Healthcare Center.

Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday December 14, at First Baptist Church of Huron with burial at Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-6:00 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church with the family present; or one hour prior to service at the church on Monday.

Thelma Bertsch was born on August 7, 1932, to Edwin and Elizabeth (Schmierer) Dockter in Venturia, North Dakota. She attended Ashley High School in North Dakota.

Thelma married Jonathan Bertsch on December 11, 1951, in McLaughlin, South Dakota. After they where married, Thelma and her family lived in Isabel, and Gettysburg, before finally settling in Huron in 1955.

Thelma spent many years as a homemaker before starting her career working for Eilers Furs in 1981 as a furrier, and for Lewis Drug as a clerk.

She enjoyed photography, traveling, sewing, baking bars, and spending time with her family and friends, especially spoiling her grandsons. Thelma loved to work!

Thelma is survived by her husband, Jonathan of Huron; sons, Dean (Sheri) Bertsch of St. Cloud, MN, Perry (Barb) Bertsch of Aurora, CO, Robbie Bertsch of Aurora, CO; daughter, Vickie (Kent) Leibel of Brookings; grandsons, Nathan and Matthew Bertsch and Garret, Reed, and Charlie Leibel; sisters, Mildred (Herbert) Thurn of Bismarck, ND, Eleanor (Leonard) Bertsch of Charlotte, NC, Loretta Hoff of Eugene, OR, and Diane (David) Kalberer, Hazelton, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Priscilla Hoff.
