His funeral service was at 10 AM Thursday, October 28th at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Marion Cain officiating.
Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery with military rites by the Virgil American Legion Post # 268.
Jonathan Bertsch was born July 5, 1927, to Karl and Christina (Breitling) Bertsch at Greenway, South Dakota. He grew up in Greenway and received his education in Venturia, North Dakota. He then farmed near Eureka, South Dakota before serving in the US Army in Germany during World War II. After his discharge, he attended Moler Barber School in Fargo.
On December 11, 1951, Jon married Thelma Dockter at McLaughlin, South Dakota. They lived in Gettysburg and Isabel before moving to Huron in 1953. Jon barbered in Huron for over fifty years, retiring in 2009.
Jon was a member of the First Baptist Church. For many years he was a member of the Huron Lions Club and the Schmidt-Barnes American Legion Post # 268 of Virgil. He enjoyed nature and the outdoors, especially golfing, fishing, and taking road trips. Jon loved visiting with his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma on December 9, 2009; and fourteen brothers and sisters.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his four children, Dean (Sheri) Bertsch of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Vickie (Kent) Leibel of Brookings, Perry (Barb) Bertsch of Aurora, Colorado, and Robbie Bertsch of Aurora, Colorado; five grandsons; and two brothers, Norman (Octavia) Bertsch of Fargo, North Dakota and Leonard (Eleanor) Bertsch of Charlotte, North Carolina.
