"Mrs. Magdalena Zahn Dies Unexpectedly at 76
Mrs. Magdalena Zahn, 76, widow of the late Joseph Zahn, Hague, died at 1 a.m. Friday, Jan 3, a few minutes after being admitted to the Linton Hospital. She had been ill 1 1/2 hours.
A daughter of George and Clara (Goldade) Schmidt, she was born in Odessa, South Russia, Feb. 18, 1887. The family came to this country when she was three years old, locating on a farm in the Wishek area.
She was married to Joeseph Zahn in St. John's Church, north of Zeeland, on Nov. 30, 1908. The couple farmed five miles north of Hague until retiring and moving into Hague in 1952. Mr. Zahn died Nov. 27, 1958, and since that time she had been making her home part of the time with her son, Matt in Linton, during the winter months.
She leaves the following 12 children: Mrs. Matt (Theresa) Wolf, Aberdeen, S.D.; Mrs. Joe (Elizabeth) Heier, Mrs. Marie Kolberg and Steve Zahn, all of Bismarck; Mrs. Octave (Frances) Langevin, Miss Clara Zahn and Andrew Zahn, all of Minneapolis; Matt Zahn, Linton; Mrs. Mike (Barbara) Welder, Glencross, S.D.; Mrs. August (Tillie) Silbernagel, Calgary,
Alta. Canada; Mrs. Rodney (Ann) Cherberg, Hopkins, Minn.; and Valentine Zahn, Coon Rapids, Minn.
Her other surviving descendents include 80 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are one brother, Martin Schmidt of Bismarck, and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Mastel, Hague.
The Very Rev. F.C. Lauinger celebrated the requiem high mass as funeral services held at 10 a.m. Tuesday from St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hague. The Kraft Funeral Home, Linton, was in charge of arrangements and burial was made in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were five sons-in-law of the deceased: Matt Wolf, Joe Heier, Octave Langevin, Mike Welder and August Silbernagel, and Valentine Mastel."
