Dorothy was a homemaker, and lived her entire married life on the family farm in Michael. When she eventually retired, she sold the farm and moved to Jerseyville, Jersey County, Illinois.
She was a member of St. Norbert's Catholic Church in Hardin and St. Michael's Catholic Church in Michael. After moving to Jerseyville, she joined Holy Ghost Catholic Church of Jerseyville. She also belonged to Jerseyville Women of the Moose Lodge 695.
At the time of her death at her home, Dorothy was 80 years, 7 monhts and 2 days old. She was survived by her daughter and son-in-law; 2 granddaughters and their spouses; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Buck; and 3 sisters, Leola, Maurine and Gen.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Robert, William and an infant brother, James Barry.
Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. on 09 Oct 1994 at Hanks-Gubser Funeral Home in Hardin. A prayer service took place at 5:30 p.m. A funeral Mass was conducted at 10 a.m. the following morning at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Michael. Dorothy was buried next to her husband, John, who passed away in 1989.
The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the Holy Ghost Catholic Church, to St. Norbert's Catholic School in Hardin or to the Carlinville Area Hospice.
