The son of John Frank Baumann and Maria Amalia "Mary" Roth, John M. married Dorothy Barry on 23 May 1933 at St. Norbert's Catholic Church in Hardin, Calhoun County, Illinois. They were the parents of 1 child.

John worked at Olin Corporation in East Alton, Madison County, Illinois until his retirement in 1978. He was also a farmer.

John died at his home 9 days before his 76th birthday. He was survived by his wife, Dorothy, who passed away in 1994.

Other survivors included 1 daughter, Joann Johnson of Alton; 2 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 4 sisters, Sister Mary Gabriel of Springfield, Marie Smith of Hardin, Bernadette Baumann of Jerseyville, and Rose Rawe, also of Jerseyville.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by 1 sister, Edna; and a brother, Carl, who died in infancy.

Visitation was held from 6 to 9 p.m. on 27 Aug 1989 at Hanks Funeral Home in Hardin. A prayer service took place at 7:30 p.m. that evening. A funeral Mass was conducted at 10 a.m. the following morning at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Michael.

The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to St. Norbert's Catholic School in Hardin.

A coroner's inquest was held to determine the cause of death.
