Whit was the son of second cousins James O. Meriwether and Lucy Meriwether Johnson. On 31 Jan 1889 in Memphis he married Annie I. Grady, daughter of Alexander Grady and Jane Futhey. Whit and Annie were the parents of two daughters, Lucile and Berta.
