Paul was born on June 29, 1836 in Ettlingen, Germany, the 6th of 8 children of Franz & Catherine (Bauereidel) Bernhard. He had brothers Ignatius, Jacob & Ernest and sisters Catherine & Caroline.
He immigrated to America in 1854 by himself to Montgomery County, New York.
Paul married Mary Ann Bellman about 1858 in Fulton or Montgomery County, New York and they had ten children listed above.
Paul & Mary appeared in the 1860 Minden, NY census with sons Francis & Henry. He was a broommaker.
Paul was 65 when he died at his residence, 382 Melvin St., on Friday, Oct. 25, 1901. He is buried at Lake View Cemetery in Sec. 25, Lot 86 along with Mary who passed away 18 years later on April 7, 1919.
