Susan Lea (Reed) Clayton, 44, passed away suddenly in her home at Carlisle Barracks, PA on December 9, 2005.

Born on March 3, 1961 in Jacksonville, FL, she was the daughter of Jesse L. and Lalia (Wilson) Reed. Susan was the older of two daughters.

Susan was a graduate of Escambia County High School and studied history at the University of West Florida. She was a member of the Perdido Bay United Methodist Church in Pensacola, FL.

A Marine Corps wife and loving mother and homemaker, Susan enthusiastically participated in a myriad of activities involving her daughters' schools and the Marine Corps. She had been past president of the Washington D.C. area Marine Corps Aviation Officers' Wives' Club and was an Honorable Kentucky Colonel.

Susan loved to collect baskets and design elaborate and beautiful photo albums of her family and friends. Her favorite activity was cooking for her family; she especially loved to introduce new recipes.

Susan will be deeply missed by her husband, Colonel Christopher Clayton; two daughters; and one sister.

Susan touched many lives with her great enthusiasm for life and her loving heart. She leaves family members and countless friends heartbroken.

A funeral service celebrating Susan's life was held from 10:30 AM to 12 PM on Thursday, December 15, 2005 at the Naval Air Station Pensacola Memorial Chapel, Pensacola, FL with Pastor Gary Black officiating. Interment followed at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle was in charge of local arrangements.
