Bertha was the fifth of six children born to Peter Ellingsen Winterton and Elizabeth Iverson Winterton. She had one sister, Anna Christina and four brothers, Clarence, Clarence Peter, Raymond Theodor and Peter Edward. Bertha's mother Elizabeth died when she was five years old. Bertha married Edwin Theodore Kullberg on January 27, 1934 in Humboldt Iowa and in their nearly 41 years together they had three daughters and two sons. One daughter, Marcella Marie preceded Bertha in death as did her husband Edwin and all of her siblings including Clarence who died as an infant. Bertha was cremated in Colorado and her remains were interred next to her husband Edwin in Lost Grove Township Cemetery in Webster County Iowa on Memorial Day 2004.
