William Ralph Hess was born January 13, 1925 to George Marion and Chloe Knowlton Hess in Bountiful, Utah. He married Fern Raney on July 3, 1953. He died peacefully on September 5, 2011 after enduring the effects of Parkinson's Disease.

He is survived by three daughters, Rebecca "Becky" Lyn Hess, Jodi Ellsworth, Julie Thomson, twenty-three grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and his siblings Katherine Hogan, Lucy Isakson, Gerald Hess, and Daniel Hess. He was preceded in death by his sweetheart, Fern, and three children, Richard Gail Hess, Laurie Dawn Hess, and William Raney "Chip" Hess, also two siblings George Hess and Benjamin Hess.

Bill served in the Navy on the Medregal (the Mighty M) in World War II as a Signalman. He spent his life making a living for his family behind the wheel of a long-line truck.

Bill was a quiet man whose strong presence blessed the lives of those who knew him. He was warm and genuine. We always knew that family came first. Being with him made us feel safe and loved.

We all remember his unique cheers at baseball games, amazing annual vacations, and the tender way he loved us all. We will miss him every day. He was lovingly cared for by his granddaughter Abbie and endless hours by his sweet wife, Fern.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Harmony Home Health, Silverado Senior Living, and Lighthouse Hospice.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary (1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South)), with a visitation on Sunday night from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Monday from 1:00-1:45 p.m., with interment to follow.
