Funeral Service Wednesday for G. M. Hess

BOUNTIFUL Funeral services for George Marion Hess, 68, Utah educator and Church worker, will be conducted Wednesday noon at the Union Mortuary.

Mr. Hess died Saturday at 4:5(sic) p.m. at his residence, 208 W. 5th North, Salt Lake City, of a stroke.

He had taught in Davis, Granite, Panguitch, Cedar City, Garfield, Salt Lake City, Driggs, Idaho, and in Teton County, Idaho, schools.

He had been principal of the Layton and Centerville elementary schools, while working in Davis County. From 1935 to 1938 he had served as superintendent of Garfield County school. He retired from teaching in 1953.

Active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mr. Hess had served in the stake presidency of Panguitch Stake and as bishop of Edgehill Ward in Salt Lake City. He had served on the Davis County Stake High Council and as superintendent of the Farmington Sunday School. He was also active in Boy Scout work and in Church welfare projects. In 1914 to 1916 he filled an Eastern States mission.

At the time of his death, hw was a High Priest in Salt Lake 24th Ward.

Born Feb. 25, 1892, in Farmington, Davis County, he was a son of George Albert and Lucy Elizabeth Sanders Hess. He married Chloe Knowlton Jan. 10, 1917, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Survivors include his widow; sons and daughters, George M. Jr., Laredo, Tex; Benjamin K., Monticello, San Juan County; William R., Salt Lake City; Gerald L., Ft. Benning, Ga.; Daniel H., Brigham City; Mrs. Floyd H. (Catherine) Hogan, Great Falls, Mont.; Mrs. Eric W. (Lucy) Isaakson, Ogden; 23 grandchildren.

Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters, LeGrand S. Hess, Farmington, Davis County; Mrs. Nina Fry, Morgan, Morgan County; Mrs. Dora Barlow, Bountiful; Mrs. Mary Ann Dumke, Mrs. Lucy McClurg and Mrs. Florence Manning, all of Sacramento, Calif.

Friends may call at the mortuary Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 20:30 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be in the Farmington City Cemetery, Davis County.
