Fern LaNelle Raney Hess was born May 22, 1924 to James Curtis and Aetna Jones Raney in Snyder, Texas. She used to say, "I'm from Texas for which there is no known cure." She married William R. Hess on July 3, 1953. Fern died December 5, 2010. She is survived by her husband, Bill Hess, and three daughters Rebecca "Becky" Lyn Hess, Jodi Ellsworth, and Julie LaNelle Thomson, as well as her siblings Linden Raney, John Paul Raney, and Billye Jo Brouse. Fern and Bill are the proud grandparents of 23 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four children, David Anthony Kent, Richard Gail Hess, Laurie Dawn Hess, and William Raney "Chip" Hess, also two siblings James Raney and Mary Raney Warden. Our mom had the rare quality of making people feel at ease in any circumstance. She made each of us feel important and special as an individual. She encouraged every one of us to be a better version of ourselves. There's no way to fill the void of her passing. She will be missed every day. The family wishes to express appreciation to the ongoing and loving care provided by our Abbie. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary (10600 South 1950 East) with visitations Thursday night 6-8 p.m. and Friday 9:30-10:45 a.m. with interment to follow.
