He immigrated as a 5 year-old with his parents and 2 siblings in 1849, aboard the Charlotte out of Hamburg to NY.

Per his naturalization record, he was born in Lononia in 1844, arrived in 1849, and was naturalized 23 Jan 1880.


Edward Lutze, aged 83, and for more than 77 years a resident of Manitowoc county, died at his home in the Town of Centerville yesterday, death due to complications incident to old age. Deceased was among the first of early German immigrant parties that settled Wisconsin in its early days before admittance into the Union, taking an important part in the building of the state and Manitowoc county. Mr. Lutze was a farmer, owning one of the most prosperous of the county's farms, having retired years ago to spend his declining years in ease. He came here in 1849. Born in Hasslau, Saxony, Germany, April 30, 1844. Mr. Lutze would have reached his eighty-third year on his next birthday.

At the age of five years, in the year of 1848, the Lutze family left Germany for these shores and upon arrival in this country came directly to this section of Wisconsin, settling near what is now Centerville in Manitowoc county. In May of 1869, Mr. Lutze was married to Miss Marga- retha Reinemann, who still survives him, and the couple took residence on a farm near Centerville. In 1919 the couple celebrated their fiftieth anniversary and their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary was celebrated at the family home at Centerville in 1924.

Besides his wife, seven children survive, four sons, Albert, Oscar and Edward, Jr.. of Cleveland, John of Meeme, and three daughters, Mrs. John Lorfeld of Cleveland, Mrs. David Lorfeld of Meeme, and and Mrs. Arthur Reick of Manitowoc. Funeral services will be held Friday at Cleveland from the home of his son, Edward Jr.. at 1:30 to St. John's and St. Peter's church where the Rev. Sprengling will conduct services at two o'clock. Burial will take place in the Saxon cemetery at Cleveland.
