As was the norm for her distinguished family, Catherine Ellerbe Ervin made the most of her time here on earth. Until she became ill, she was full of energy and enthusiasm for everything in which she was involved.

She served as a teacher at Morganton High School; was a Sunday School teacher; travelled as a mountain mission teacher, and evenetually moved to Richmond, Virginia, to be a secretary to her brother-in-law psychiatrist J.K. When she returned to Morganton, she assisted her father and her brother Sam Ervin Sr. and Jr. in their law offices.

Catherine Ervin immersed herself in civic and social affairs, and is best remembered as one of the founders of the Morganton Public Library. Gardener, reader, volunteer, friend --- she touched so many and was sadly missed by all.

Sources: family; biographical sketch by Sam J. Ervin, Jr., The New Herald November 5, 1940.
