Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Calvary Baptist Church for Mr. James W. Jones, age 80, who passed away August 20, 2011 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. Interment followed at Calvary Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements.

Rev. John Price, Rev. Leon Wallace, Rev. Mike Sutton and Rev. Sonny Atkins officiated. Pall bearers were Bo Benson, Chris Cone, Scott Daughdrill, Johnny Jordan, Phil May, Gary McCloud, Keith Powell and Mike Sandifer. Honorary pall bearers were George Blair, Mike Clark, Ron Cox, Lee Earls, Raymond Fortenberry, Richard Hammond, Gary Hartzog, Wayne Hillard and Lloyd Powell.

James William Jones was born on July 25, 1931 in Winston County, Mississippi. He was the son of Joseph B. Jones and Verna Mae McCool Jones. Mr. Jones was a true example of the verse in Ecclesiastes 9:10, NIV, "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might". He worked as the USPS Postmaster at New Hebron for many years, owned an Appliance store in Silver Creek, owned a Gas Station in Monticello and retired from the MS Army National Guard in 1991, as a Colonel, after serving for more than forty years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, taught Sunday school for many years and was a Mason.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn S. Jones of Silver Creek, MS; a son, Jimmy Jones of Silver Creek, MS, two daughters, Sandra K. Jones of Ridgeland, MS and Debbie Miles of Sturgis, MS; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a brother, Dorris Jones of Louisville, MS and four sisters, Irene Lipscomb of Macon, MS, Mavis Barlow of Florence, MS, Mary Elizabeth Ezelle of Texas and Sybil Miles of Florence, MS.

He was preceded in death by his parents and close friend, James Ray Benson.
