She also leaves four great grandsons and four great granddaughters. She is also survived by three sisters: Mavis Barlow and Syble Miles of Florence, and Mary Ezelle of Tyler, Texas. She was the first of six children born to Joseph Bew and Verna McCool Jones. She graduated from the Noxubee County Agricultural High School in 1941 and was the first secretary hired by the First Baptist Church in Louisville, MS. In 1943 she married her high school sweetheart, Jasper Holmes Lipscomb, Jr., who was in basic training with the U.S. Army. He served in the European Theater if World War II from 1944-45. He saw action in Normandy, France, Luxembourg and Germany. After the war, Jasper joined the Southern Bell Telephone Company and was employed by them in Jackson until he retired in 1983. She worked with the Baptist Convention Board Church Training Department from 1963-1984. After they retired, they moved from Jackson to live on the farm where he was raised in Mashulaville MS, between Louisville and Macon. Jasper and Irene were active at Calvary Baptist Church from 1945-1970, and at Parkway Baptist from 1970-1983. They worked with children's programs for over 40 yrs. They were married for 65 years until his death in 2009. Services will be held Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Harmony Baptist Church, 320 Harmony Church Road, Louisville MS 39339. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until service time. A time of fellowship will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any contributions be made to Harmony Baptist Church. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon, MS is entrusted with arrangements.
