US Congressman. He was born to Jonas Brooks Wilder and Louise Davidson Wilder in Belfast, Maine, attended local common schools, and then moved with his family to Boston, Massachusetts, where he continued his schooling in 1866. After his education, he engaged in manufacturing and mercantile pursuits in Gardner, Massachusetts. He eventually became the President of his business, Wilder Industries Inc. On June 20, 1876, he married Helen Marion Laws and the couple would go on and have five children, Solon born in 1883, Marion born in 1885, Paul born in 1888, Alice Fidelia born in 1890, and Naomi Helen born in 1893. He then studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1900. In 1909, he was admitted to practice law before the United States Supreme Court and he went on to study monetary systems in Europe and other countries. He wrote many helpful pamphlets and articles on monetary questions. He also held over fifty patent papers, mostly for farming machinery. He then ran for a seat in the United States Congress and was elected. A Republican, he then served Massachusetts's 3rd and 4th Districts (Sixty-Second and Sixty-Three Congresses) in the United States House of Representatives from 1911 to 1913. He passed away at his home at the Woodward Apartments in Washington, D.C., on September 11, 1913, following a short illness of three weeks at the age of 58, while still in office. Following a funeral attended by many famous dignitaries, his body was returned to Gardner, Massachusetts, for burial next to his wife who passed away in 1909 at the Crystal Lake Cemetery.
