Born on the family farm in Calumet (Township) of Fond du Lac County, WI; Frank was the fourth of eleven children (seven sons & four daughters) born to Mathias & Amelia Eva Maria (Koster) Braun.

"Frank was the first of the children of Mathias & Amelia Braun to come to Wahpeton, ND from St. Joseph's, MN. He began a successful implement business in which his brother Math joined him when he arrived in Wahpeton in 1882. Five years later, an immigrant by the name of Theodore Geister, who had been a miller in Germany, approached Frank and Math suggesting they take over an old flour mill that had been built in 1881. After a year and half, the mill burnt. But in the time they had run the mill, Frank and Math knew they could run a mill successfully so they built a new mill, which was opened in 1889 – it was called "New Star Roller Mills", for this was the year that North Dakota became a state, becoming the new star in the Nation's flag.

On 23 January 1882, Frank married Anna Mary Mehr in Wahpeton, ND; he was age 26, she was 16. Born 8 July 1865 in Illinois (town unknown), a homemaker & mother of five, Anna Mary died 20 July 1929 in Wahpeton, ND at age 64.

"In March of 1891, Frank fell ill with pneumonia. As he lay dying, he asked his brother Math to care for his pregnant wife and their four children. Math shared the profits of the company on a fifty-fifty basis with Frank's family as long as he lived. Math had Frank's wife, Anna Mary, made a partner in the mill."

CHILDREN:
-o- Anna Katherina "Angeline" (1883-1955)
-o- William Matthew (1884-1964)
-o- Cecelia Margaretha "Celia" (1886-1976)
-o- Olivia Catherine (1888-1976)
-o- Frances Agnes (1891-1941)

Frank died 21 March 1891 in Wahpeton, ND at age 36; his grave marker shows he was a member of the Wahpeton Volunteer Fire Department.
