Born 31 August 1884 in Wahpeton, ND, William was the second of five children born to Frank & Anna Mary (Mehr) Braun.

In 1908, William married Ruby Enlalia Griffith in Lansford, ND; they were both age 24. Born 2 January 1884 in Plainfield, IA; Ruby was the sixth of eightchildren born to Adam Patterson. & Florence Mae (Ketchum) Griffith.

William graduated from Saint John's University (Collegeville, MN) in 1902 and then went on to run a flour mill (owned by the Math Braun Company; making "Miller's Best Flour") in Lansford, ND until it burned down in 1929. He was also an accomplished percussionist, playing drums with the Lansford town band.

In the early 1930's, William moved his family to Minneapolis, where he tried running a bakery. Even though they were selling loaves of bread for three cents each, the bakery failed -- but it was the Great Depression and business failures were too common then. William went on to work as the Fire Marshal for Sears-Robuck Company in Minneapolis.

He died 21 December 1964 in Minneapolis, MN at age 80.

William & Ruby had one child:
-o- Cecil Mathias (1909-1989)
