Milton R. Schwalbe, age 86, of 8750 Hwy 151, Manitowoc, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church at Newtonburg. The Rev. Victor Headrick will officiate with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.

Milton was born June 16, 1917 in the Town of Liberty, Manitowoc County, son of the late August and Ella Luebke Schwalbe. He attended school in the town of Manitowoc Rapids ans St. John Evangelical Lutheran School at Newtonburg. Milton also attended the Agricultural Short Course at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. On Nov. 1, 1941, Milton was married to the former Sylvia I. Vetting at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Newtonburg. The couple owned and operated the Twin Elm Dairy Farm in the town of Manitowoc Rapids. Milton was active in various farm organizations while farming. Milton and Sylvia enjoyed winters in Holiday, Fla., after retirement. He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Newtonburg.

Survivors include his wife: Sylvia of Manitowoc; one son and daughter-in-law: Charles and Melissa Schwalbe of Crofton, MD; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Karen Schwalbe of West Allis; Barbara and William Thorrington of New Berlin; Sarah and Michael Bentzler of Milwaukee; seven granddaughters: Tamra and Christopher Hibner; Christine Thorrington; Renee Thorrington; Stephanie and Michael Bernier; Rebecca Schwalbe; Katharine Schwalbe; Elizabeth Bentzler; four great-grandchildren: Joel, Emily, Madison, and Jordan; one sister: Alice Nass of Manitowoc; one sister-in-law: Lilah Hovland of Madison; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive. He was preceded in death by one sister: Gladys Johnson in 1951; two sisters-in-law: Doris Helgeson and Leona Murphy; three brothers-in-law: Guy Hovland, Conrad Helgson, and Elroy Nass.

Relatives and friends may call at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Newtonburg, on Friday, Nov. 21, 2003 from 4pm until 8pm, and on Saturday from 10am until the time of services at 11am.

The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc is serving the Schwalbe family.
