Karen L. Schwalbe, age 72, a Milwaukee resident died Friday morning, August 28, 2015 at the Wisconsin Lutheran Living Center surrounded by her family following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Karen was born on February 26, 1943 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Milton and Sylvia (Vetting) Schwalbe. She grew up in Manitowoc and was a member of the 2nd graduating class (1961) of Manitowoc Lutheran High School. After graduating from DMLC in New Ulm, MN in 1965, she taught in Wisconsin Ev. Lutheran Synod schools. Karen retired from St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee where she worked as a cardiac catheterization technician. She enjoyed travel, music and handicrafts. Karen was a member of Risen Savior Ev. Lutheran Church in Milwaukee.

She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law: Charles (Melissa) Schwalbe, Boonsboro, MD; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Barbara (William) Thorrington, East Troy; Sarah (Michael) Bentzler, Colgate; seven nieces; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held in Milwaukee at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Risen Savior Ev. Lutheran Church, 9550 Brown Deer Rd. with the Rev. Charles Papenfuss officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the church from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral and committal services will be held in Manitowoc at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2015 at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home, 818 State St. The Rev. Victor Headrick will officiate. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. Karen will be laid to rest in the Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc.
